Group lauds Governor AbdulRazaq’s Rejection of Dynasty Politics

A leading Pro-Democracy group, Kwara Must Change (KMC), has applauded Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq’s declaration that he has no interest in creating a political dynasty, describing it as a timely reassurance as Kwara State approaches a sensitive political transition period.

While responding to questions from pressmen at the weekend in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital, convener Kwara Must Change,Abdulrazaq Hamzat, said the governor’s position reflects a clear commitment to governance built on performance, strong institutions, and long term sustainability, rather than succession politics or personal power preservation.

According to Hamzat, the rejection of dynastic politics places Governor AbdulRazaq in the tradition of leaders such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo and  Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, statesmen who did not establish political dynasties but left enduring legacies that continue to shape governance and development decades after their tenure.

“Kwara Must Change believes that the true test of leadership is not who succeeds you, but what survives you,” he stated.

He further noted that Governor AbdulRazaq’s declaration represents a conscious effort to preserve the spirit of the Otoge political revolution, demonstrating fidelity to the ideals that brought him to power.

“He has shown that he is a worthy leader of a historic revolution, one who will not twist the power conferred by that revolution for personal gain or dynastic ambition,” Hamzat said.

KMC observed that, history shows that many leaders attempt to sustain influence after leaving office by building dynasties around themselves. Against this backdrop, the governor’s stance signals a deliberate and commendable departure from this familiar political pattern.

“By prioritising a performance based legacy over dynasty, the governor has demonstrated uncommon political restraint and institutional maturity.

This approach strengthens democracy and reassures citizens that governance is not reduced to inheritance,” the convener added.

The group further linked the governor’s position to the broader philosophy of the Otoge movement, describing it as a rejection of entitlement politics and a collective demand for accountability, fairness, and institutional governance.

“This is what Otoge represents, an end to politics of dominance and entitlement. Kwara Must Change has consistently positioned itself as a custodian of the Otoge spirit and philosophy, and this declaration by the governor affirms that the spirit remains alive,” the group said.

KMC concluded that by openly rejecting dynasty politics and emphasizing a legacy of performance, Governor AbdulRazaq has once again demonstrated leadership consistent with the ideals that ushered in the Otoge revolution, calling on all stakeholders to focus on strengthening institutions that will preserve and sustain progress beyond the current administration.
